A brief description about yourself:

Hello! I'm Sheng Yuan, a fresh grad from UCL Laws. I've been teaching IB English since 2020, wanting to provide a more candid and approachable way of teaching for an oft-overlooked and commonly disliked subject.

Outside of teaching and university, I enjoy listening to music and concerts, especially local Singaporean artists, as well as basketball and the NBA.

What you hope to inculcate to your students:

One thing I hope to teach students is the many transferrable skills one can gain from studying the English Language - skills like effective essay writing, presenting, and critical thinking have an outsized benefit for life after IB.

Another thing would be to find their own voice in discussing literature and enjoying the process!

How your lessons are carried out:

Generally, the overarching syllabus is structured to cover the IB's requirements; on a micro level, lessons are tailored to students' feedback and needs, in order to target specific weaknesses. I keep lessons light and (hopefully) enjoyable, but with a core focus on skills and techniques that I've found work for students.
